It's all make believe, isn't it?

Desperation.

Honey, there’s been some trouble!

And I don’t know what to say.

There’s a mess in the kitchen

That takes my breath away.

Mommy and daddy are arguing

Leaning over the counter, swearing.

Marissa and big sister listen

Holding each-other’s gaze, cold and leering.

Big sister tells Marissa,

“Go to sleep.”

Big sister needs to cry,

Marissa can’t see her weep.

Honey, we have a problem!

The police are at the door.

Mommy is crying to big sister,

she won’t be around anymore.

Mommy hugs big sister,

and tells her not to cry.

Mommy says she’ll see us soon

Or at least do her best and try.

Mommy’s gone,

But her children remain.

Crying and shaking,

When will their lives be okay again?

Honey we have a problem!

Big sister’s grown.

She’s headed to highschool,

She’s standing strong and alone.

Honey, we have a problem.

Her walls are tall and rough.

How will they get through?

If she’ll never be enough?

Big sister is walking,

and life somehow goes on once more.

But honey, but honey!

She doesn’t have hope anymore!

Oh honey, oh honey!

A real problem, if there ever were!

There’s a boy come along,

seemingly perfect for her.

Big sister smiles,

She thinks it’s okay.

Oh honey! Oh honey!

What can I say?
